Switzerland:

Sharp increase in organic banana sales in January

In January 2025, around 374 metric tons of organic courgettes were sold in retail stores. This is 27.0 percent more than in January of the previous year. The organic price in the classic retail trade (excluding discounters) this January was 4.57 US$/kg and was thus 13.4 percent lower than in the same month last year. Since zucchini are not grown in Switzerland during the winter, these are foreign goods.

January 2025: Almost one in three bananas was organic
2,076 metric tons of organic bananas were sold in Swiss retail stores in January. This is an increase of 16.1% over the previous month and 11.5% over the same month last year. Compared to the January figures for the previous five years, this was the highest sales volume of organic bananas. This means that almost one in three bananas sold was organic (33.0%).
