It is a flourishing time for the Italian brand Limoré, with demand outstripping supply and sales prices up to 30% higher than the same period in 2024. It is now easy to find boxes on the shelves of several Italian, European, and non-EU supermarkets.

"So far, we have harvested 60 per cent of the available quantity, which is more than 1,000 tons of lemons. We have two months left to finish harvesting and selling. We expect to end the campaign by the end of May. At the moment, we are sending out an average of 14 pallets a day. We put a postcard in each box to personalize the packaging and highlight the characteristics of our lemons", says the board of the Consortium of Associated Lemon Producers, based in the Calabria region.

And they continue: "Last month we recorded a 70% increase in sales compared to the same period last year. The main channel remains that of exports. Only a small part is distributed in Italy. About 70 per cent of the volume goes to the European large-scale retailers, especially Germany, Switzerland, Great Britain, Norway, and the Netherlands. The remainder is sold in Japan and the United Arab Emirates."

Due to the high demand experienced in recent weeks, the cooperative has been compelled to source additional supplies in the Rocca Imperiale area. "Given the positive commercial trend, we have asked other local producers who are not members of the consortium to supply us with their crops. The introduction of the new Limonello brand and its innovative packaging has been instrumental in enhancing the perceived value of the smaller-sized product. We are also seeing a significant increase in orders for this item."

However, the frequent rains are causing some difficulties. "The heavy rains of the last few days are slowing down the harvest. We have increased the number of workers in the field in order to harvest as many lemons as possible when it is not raining because there is a high demand and we cannot reduce the production entering our warehouse where the fruit is packaged and branded," they conclude.
