Malda targets 1,000-ton mango export to Japan

The Agriculture and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) and the Malda district administration have initiated plans to export 1,000 tons of Malda mangoes to Japan. A meeting in Malda included farmers, exporters, and officials like Sandeep Saha, SK Mondal, Additional District Magistrate Debahuti Indra, Deputy Director Samanta Layek, and scientist Deepak Nayak from ICAR-CISH.

Sandeep Saha noted, "This season, apart from exporting to other countries, we are also focusing on Japan. We have set a target to export approximately 1,000 tons of mangoes to Japan through Vapour Heat Treatment (VHT) in Uttar Pradesh, ensuring compliance with international standards."

Malda, known for its mango varieties, aims to tap into Japan's market. APEDA and local authorities plan to maintain quality standards and provide training to comply with Japan's regulations. Uzzal Saha, president of Malda Mango Merchants Association, stated: "Apart from Japan, we have received queries from Italy, Belgium, Germany, and other countries. We are also having discussions with competent authorities about procuring certificates quickly required for the export."

The initiative could enhance Malda's mango export reputation and bolster India's global fruit market presence.
