Ly Nguyen - Van Xuan Agri

"This year, many farmers are choosing to grow coffee instead of passion fruit, leading to very high prices"

The main passion fruit harvest for Vietnamese company Van Xuan Agri has just come to an end, and they are looking forward to the start of the next one.

"The weather during the harvest was good, mostly sunny and windy, this resulted in a good harvest overall," according to Ly Nguyen, Sales Executive at Van Yuan Agri. "We harvested an average of 30 tons per hectare, resulting in a total harvest of over 9000 tons this season."

The company recently planted an additional 300 hectares of passion fruit, which are now producing fruit.

"Demand in Vietnam is relatively limited. Passion fruit distributed to markets and supermarkets accounts for only about 5% of our total production. However, there is significant demand in other markets. Interestingly, this year, many farmers are choosing to grow coffee instead of passion fruit, leading to very high passion fruit prices due to a shortage of supply."

"Our main export markets are as follows: Europe and the U.S. for fresh passion fruit and passion fruit concentrate and China and Korea for passion fruit pulp. We are actively working to increase exports and are also distributing more seedlings to encourage more people to grow passion fruit."

Van Xuan Agri sold between 500 to 1000 tons to trading companies that export to European countries, and around 1000 tons of fresh passion fruit were exported to China. Their primary focus is on exporting processed passion fruit to other countries.
