China: Rising Avocado consumption levels

Fruit consumption levels keep increasing in China thanks to improvements in living standards and changes in consumer choices. And imported fruits are the most popular due to their superior taste and quality. This strong market demand keeps driving the increase of imported fruits in China. According to statistics, last year China imported a total of 5 billion US dollars' worth of fruit, a year-on-year increase of 16%.

The recent data also indicates that avocado consumption levels have increased significantly in the past 10 years. Taking the 2015-2016 season as one example, China imported a total of 5,241 tons avocado from Chile, which accounts for 92% of its imported volume in Asia.
