US: Tuber affecting strain of virus Y found in four states
A new website has been set up to educate growers about potato virus Y and associated strains has been launched as part of a joint effort undertaken by the US Food and Drug Administration, The University of Idaho, Cornell University and the University of Wisconsin.
At www.potatovirus.com, growers can read PVY research updates by experts from the three universities, along with related links and a discussion forum.
The original strain damages yield potential by damaging leaves, thus stunting growth. However, many recently surfaced strains, including this one, impair not the leaves, but the tubers.
