"Christian de Haas: "Good supply and low prices"

EU: Difficult citrus market

Citrus sales are very difficult at the moment. "There is far too much supply" Christian de Haas of Jaguar sighs. "From Spain, Greece but also from Morocco and Egypt too much product arrives. The result is low prices. As soon as one tries to increase prices somewhat sales stagnate."

Prices of juicing oranges are around 7.50/8 Euro and for Egyptian oranges about 6 to 7.50 Euro. The importer is not too enthusiastic about the prospects. "Morocco will start the Maroc-late at the end of the month and Egypt as well is in full production. I am not very positive about the citrus market in the coming weeks. There was frost in Spain, but we will have to wait and see what influence this will have on the supply."

According to the importer the consumption of the citrus is also less. "This is not because of the weather which was first class for citrus consumption the last few weeks. Also the quality of the fruit is very good" Christian concludes.
