US (CA): Citrus psyllid spreads

The Asian citrus psyllid is on the move. According to state agricultural officials the pest has spread to Riverside County. The officials are going to start spraying the area to try and halt its progress.

State Department of Food and Agriculture officials say emergency action is needed to protect California's $2 billion per year citrus industry from enormous impact should the tree-killing pest spread citrus greening disease to commercial groves and backyard trees.

The state discovered the pest earlier this month, in a trap some 30 miles away from Hacienda Heights where greening was recently discovered for the first time in the state.
