"First there was a shortage of big sizes of persimmons now there aren't enough packaged available"

The persimmon season will go on for another couple of weeks at 4 Fruit Company. "The persimmons are at their best at the moment," says Lisan van Koppen. "At the beginning of the season there were few large sizes available, but due to the rain of the past few weeks there is now a shortage of packaged persimmons. The volumes are quickly decreasing, but we will have small amounts until Christmas."

4 Fruit sells the persimmons under the top brand Bouquet by Anecoop. According to Lisan the sales this season went well. "You can notice that a lot of Spanish citrus growers have switched to growing persimmons in the last few years. We are also getting a lot more persimmons from Bouquet. This has its effect on the prices, which are a lot lower on average than last year. Qualitatively this season was better than the last one."

According to the importer the demand for persimmon is quite wide, but the orange fruits are being sold in the home market more and more, and Russia is becoming an important buyer of persimmons. "Due to the days off on the 6th and 8th of December in Spain the supply is a lot lower at the moment. People are also trying to stretch the season to be able to make programmes for Christmas. That's why there is a lot of speculation at the moment."
