Spain: Good asparagus production this year
Despite delays in the planting, the asparagus campaign in Navarra, Spain, has reached similar figures to those from 2012 and producers are very satisfied.
This year, the weather caused some changes which, in the end, have been positive. Rains during the Spring delayed the preparations of the land, which consequently led to delays in the campaign. The month of June allowed for the end of the campaign to be postponed, making it possible for the harvest to be carried out in July.
In total, more than 170,000 kilos of fresh asparagus and 2 million kilos more for the canning industry have been produced, according to the Protected Geographical Indication Asparagus of Navarra, which rated the campaign as "very good", while declaring to be satisfied with the results, as this year's figures are similar to 2012's, when almost 184,000 kilos of fresh asparagus and a little over 2 million for the canning industry were certified.
