China (Dulan): Vegetable production increases by 20% with government support

Through the help of government support and advances in technology, the residents of Dulan County can now produce their own organic and pesticide-free vegetables. With originally only being able to produce 20% of the country’s vegetable needs, their production has gone up to 40%.

Dulan County Agriculture Bureau Director, Yu Caifeng, stated that in 2013, Dulan country already had a total of 590 vegetable greenhouses. He adds that currently the number of greenhouses has reached 1160, with a total of 770 acres. He said that Dulan county plans and expects to have an annual production capacity of more than 300 tons, with an income of nearly 7 million yuan.

The project has helped the surrounding rural area to have work and obtain income. Even the disabled have obtained employment. Some have opened several vegetable stores in the county. And because production is stable, prices are stable as well, and business is good. The government has helped in providing education, imparting of technology and know-how, and construction of agricultural facilities.
