The project has the objective of meeting the needs of the most demanding customers who want unlimited fresh produce. In fact, one of the main problems today is the lack of time to shop, especially for perishable products. That is why "living salad" was introduced, i.e. salad that is sold in a vase with all its roots and which is ready to use any time.
The project was launched a year ago by SempreFresco Srl. Customers can choose between a mix of three fresh salads or a basil plant.
In the greenhouse, all parameters (temperature, light, humidity, fertilization and growth) are checked by a sophisticated computer system. Three types of salad (green and red gentile and Roman) grown in compostable peat and thanks to a NFT system with no chemicals.
A strict production calendar - maximum 15,000 plants per day - means the same number of 200 gram packets are available each day, corresponding to approx. two portions.
Once bought, they can be stored at home in a cool and bright place for up to a week. Just take the leaves you need and wash them like you do with the other vegetables.
It is another step forward, providing a service for consumers who can keep plants in their kitchen, and which respects the environment, as both the soil and the bag are biodegradable.
SempreFresco is part of Guidizzolo PO, specialised in the cultivation of leaf vegetables and tomatoes. L'Orto in Cucina products are destined mainly to retailers in Italy, Poland and Eastern Europe.
Chairman Fabrizio Cimarosti is satisfied with the techniques used. "Our product is right in the middle of traditional produce and the fresh-cut range. It is a new high-quality product. As for the future, we want to cover the whole cycle in greenhouses and widen the range."
