Haggen names Clougher new CEO
He succeeds a three-man office of the president that has overseen the company since late 2012. Two of the three executives — Clement Stevens and John Turley — will remain with Haggen as SVPs; the third member of the office of the president, Ron Stevens, who was also CFO, left the company earlier this year.
Haggen directors said the three-member office of the president was “working as a transition team while an extensive search was done for a new CEO.”
Clougher has been CEO of Andronico’s Community Markets, a five-store Northern California operator, since 2011 after spending more than 25 years with Whole Foods Markets, Austin, Texas, where he ultimately served as Northwest regional president.
According to John Caple, a Haggen director, “John is the ideal leader to help us further establish Haggen as the premier grocer in the Pacific Northwest. His diverse skill set encompasses the grocery and specialty food industries, with deep knowledge of the Pacific Northwest grocery landscape.”
Over the past two years Haggen has closed several underperforming stores, including eight in 2013, and remodelled 16 of its remaining 18 stores under the Haggen Northwest Fresh banner.
