Greece: Tons of peaches given to charity
Greek farmers want procedures to begin immediately in order to stop prices from dropping further. The producers have proposed that part of the peaches to be used for making juice to be distributed to schools. It is expected that the amount of compensation farmers will receive from the European Commission will be announced on Friday, when officials are due to meet in Brussels. It is estimated that the EU aid will reach 30 to 35 million Euro.
During a meeting chaired by Deputy Foreign Minister Dimitris Kourkoulas, farmers and representatives of the transport sector discussed potential alternative export markets for Greece.
