Peru's National Institute of Statistics reported that the country's avocado exports between 2007 and 2013 had an average annual growth of 20.4%, and thus a cumulative increase of 205.2%.

In the past seven years, more than 476,000 metric tonnes of avocados have been exported; 2013 has been the year with the greatest export volumes, reaching 114,052 tonnes. The most exported variety is the Hass.

Upward trend of prices in the international market
During the 2007-2013 period, the price of avocados in the overseas markets has shown an upward trend; however, in 2012 it dropped by 6.5% compared to 2011. It then recovered in 2013, reporting an increase of 3.9%.

Revenue from exports up by 79.0%
In the first half of 2014, the value of avocado exports reached 182.7 million dollars, exceeding by 79.0% the level achieved in the same period last year (102 million).

The main destination markets were the United States of America (40.3%), the Netherlands (32.1%), Spain (16.5%), the United Kingdom (6.2%), Canada (3.0%) and Hong Kong (0.6%), among others.

In the first half of 2014, the FOB value of avocado exports accounted for 9.9% of the country's non-traditional agricultural exports.

The export and avocado production increased in the first half of 2014
In the period from January to June this year avocado exports increased by 39,900 tonnes, favoured by the greater domestic production, which grew by 16.7%. It is worth noting that the volume exported accounted for 49.5% of Peru's total avocado production, 14% more than in the same period of 2013 (35.5%).
