Good opportunities for Greek strawberries and kiwis in Romania
Following the upward trend of Greek vegetables in Romania, a growing interest has also been registered in the import of Greek strawberries and kiwis affected by the Russian embargo.
As stated by Io̱ánni̱s Márkos, of the General Counsel Office of Economic and Business Affairs (ECA) of the Greek Embassy in Bucharest, "there are good prospects for Greek fruit and vegetables on the Romanian market. Our Office intervened and organised a meeting between a delegation of Romanian importers and Greek strawberry producers. There is also interest in Greek kiwifruit, which is heavily affected by the Russian embargo."
A report, released by the Romanian ISD Office, showed a significant increase in Greek fruit exports to Romania in 2013 compared to 2012. In particular, there was a 76.88% increase in the export of oranges (60,213 tonnes in 2013 compared to 35,154 tonnes in 2012); of 70.40% in the export of clementines (12,652 versus 7,327 tonnes); of 63.37% in the export of mandarins (8,972 versus 6,000); +48.47% in exports of kiwifruit (6,037 versus 2,255) and a 17.19% growth in the shipments of nectarines (12,721 versus 5,562 tonnes).
