Italian citrus market calm

It is a rather calm moment in the wholesale citrus fruit market between the end of the Italian season and the start of the Spanish one. "The Tarocco and late orange seasons are ending and the first imports from Spain have started with normal prices. Navelate wholesale prices hover between 50 and 80 Euro cents per kg according to category and grade," explains Andrea Saturnini, chairman of Fedagro Verona and wholesaler at the Verona fresh produce market.

As regards clementines, he says that "the Italian season ended 2 months ago with prices around €1.50/kg. Now there are mainly late Spanish ones, the Nadorcott, with prices between €1.30 and 1.40/kg. There are also a few clementines from Morocco, bot only small quantities because this year the country sold more elsewhere."

"Tangerines come from Sicily and quality is good, so much so that prices hover between 80 cents and €1/kg up to €1.10."

"The Spanish Star Ruby grapefruit campaign will last for a month. The produce from overseas is practically finished. Prices are around 90 cents per kg."
