Marks & Spencer introduced the Plango last weekend. It is a cross between a plum and a mango. The original tropical fruit called the Bouea Macrophylla and is from Thailand.
Specialist growers have worked several years on this project. The fruithas a bright orange edible skin, which is firmer than that of a plum, and asweet taste similar to that of an Alphonso mango but with a softer texture.
“We’re really excited to be introducing thefirst mango plum to the UK," said M&Sfruit expert Shazad Rehman. “We knowour customers like to try new and interesting fruit and we’re sure this will besomething they will really enjoy."
The fruitis much smaller than a traditional mango and grows to two inches in diameterand four inches in length. It will beon shelves at M&S, priced at £1 each.
