Vegetable prices in Egypt increased by 43.5% in November compared to the same month in 2014, registering their highest rate since late 2011.
Last Thursday, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics said that the rise in vegetable prices contributed by 4.5% to the change in the annual inflation rate in November.
The Agency also announced on its website that the annual inflation rate for consumer prices in urban areas has reached 11.1 percent in November, compared to 9.7 percent in October.
Courgettes recorded the largest increase in November, growing by 104.3% compared to last year, followed by tomatoes with about 84.9% and sweet peppers with 55.9%.
Food prices, which account for 40% of the inflation basket of goods and services, increased by 15.1 percent in November.
The agency noted that fruit prices have increased by 17.4%, meat and poultry by 9.3%, and milk, cheese and eggs by 10.2%.
