Mexico: It's mango season

It's mango season and Mexico City's Central Market is already selling all the different mango varieties there are.

This fruit is very popular and can be eaten raw, with chili powder, or in cocktails, juices, smoothies, ice cream, cakes, pies and sauces. The industry uses it to produce juices, nectars, and fruit in syrup.

Consumers can find the different mango varieties in the Central Market throughout the whole season, which runs from February to July. Consumers can buy them retail in the Market's sector I-J and wholesale in the KL, MN, and ST areas.

The Central Market distributes a large proportion of the domestic production of mango. The most consumed varieties include gold, manila, ataulfo, creole, Haden, Keit, kent, and tommy varieties.

Guerrero, Sinaloa, Nayarit, Chiapas, Oaxaca, Michoacan, Veracruz, Colima, Jalisco, and Campeche are the states that produce the different varieties of mango.

Mangoes have a juicy consistency and a bittersweet taste. They have minerals and antioxidants, as well as fiber, calcium, potassium, magnesium, and folic acid. Mangoes have an enzyme that is similar to the papaya's papain enzime, which aids digestion.
