Befresh Europe: “Potato season lasts until late-June”

Befresh Europe has recently announced that they are expecting a slight delay to their potato season this year. Oron Ziv from Befresh Europe stated that the season would start a week later than usual but expects a good harvest.

“Our potato season starts this week,” says Oron Ziv “Crop is looking good, we had no serious issues during the growing season, such as frost. A shortage of potatoes was predicted by some people, and they were also worried the quality of the storage potato wouldn’t be good enough. However, these predictions are turning out to be false. However, it’s still too early so say with full conviction. The season lasts until late-June, with the spring crop.”

“There will be demand for fresh potatoes, though the market isn’t empty now. The market is facing weak currencies in the dollar and the euro. Compared to last year, we’ll need to sell for higher prices,” Oron says. “European retail will never completely switch to fresh potatoes, because it’ll be too expensive. They’ll always have import on the shelves, besides fresh. As long as they can get good potatoes for good prices, why would they switch?”
