Turkey's exports to Qatar have increased three-fold, reaching a value of 32.5 million dollars, since four Arab countries surrounding Qatar imposed a ban on 5 June, as reported by Turkey's Minister for Customs and Trade, Bülent Tüfenkci.
"Since 5 June, the value of exports to Qatar has reached $ 32.5 million, including $ 12.5 million worth of food, which is three times the normal level," Tüfenkci told reporters at a breakfast.
Turkey has already sent more than 100 planes loaded with supplies to Qatar, but Turkish Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci said that deliveries could not continue to be made by air.
Thus, the first vessel carrying food left for Qatar from the port of Izmir, in western Turkey.
The ship, which departed last Thursday, is carrying about 4,000 tonnes of vegetables, fruits and grains. The ships will dock at a port in the Qatari capital of Doha 10 days later.
The volume of Turkish trade with Qatar is expected to rise to $ 1.720 billion, with prospects for this figure to eventually exceed $ 2 billion, given the growing cooperation between the two countries.
Turkish exports of fresh fruits and vegetables to the State of Qatar have increased significantly in recent times, according to a statement issued by the Union of Exporters in the Western Mediterranean in Turkey.
