Italy: Good sales for early pears

"There was little produce available in Europe between August and September, which pushed the sale of early varieties (Carmen, S. Maria, Morettini). Now sales are stable with quantities similar to last year," reports an operator.

As regards Abate, "prices are good with good European demand for medium grades (due to some main European chains from grades 70/75 and 75/80 to smaller grades). The season should last a bit longer, considering the good shelf-life. Things are slower for Kaiser but there is still long way to go."

Finally, the expert reports that, due to the lack of green William pears, Max Red Bartlett is doing well despite the fact that exports to France have started slightly late.
