Several supermarkets currently banana-less

In some US districts there is currently a banana shortage, thanks primarily to cooler and rainier weather in Central America. Some stores have them and some stores don't. A strike by Chiquita workers in Honduras over healthcare costs is adding to the hit-or-miss nature of being able to get your bananas.

Jo Natale, vice president of Media Relations of Wegman Stores, was until very recently unaware of the shortage. The reason she didn't know is that Dole, the Wegman’s banana supplier, hasn't been as hard-hit as some other producers.

Patch.com quoted Natale as saying: "It didn't affect us, but I reached out to Dole and they said there actually is a shortage. They did say that the supply is normalizing and that the shortage is behind them.”
