Juan Rivas and Andrés Álvarez Perea, of FrutXottic Spain, have stated that they are working with Ecuadorian pineapples due to the saturation of air traffic in Costa Rica. "We can confirm that it is a pineapple with a different flavour and other characteristics, especially in terms of shelf life, external colour and sweetness."
"The external appearance of these pineapples is also very attractive, as they have a beautiful shape, a large and well-shaped crown, and a golden colour that Costa Rica's fruit doesn't have," explains Rivas.
FrutXottic Spain, together with its biggest commercial ally Fruits Olivar, is working to change the consumption habits of its customers little by little, although Juan says that "there is still a long way to go." The company is based in MercaMadrid and they sell in all domestic markets, as well as in other countries of the European Union, such as France, Italy, Portugal or Greece.
"We are currently looking for new commercial alliances outside of Europe, namely in emerging markets, as we have observed that the trend is to boost the gradual change of current consumption models. We are all looking for more flavour, a more natural pineapple and above all, a much fresher product."
