The producers of the French Association Demain la Terre (Tomorrow the Planet) are awarded HVE – High Environmental Value (Level 3 of environmental certification of farms). The certification was managed in a collective framework by Demain la Terre.
The 2018 scope of this certification includes SAS Val de Sérigny (melon), SCEA Pot-au-Pin – Planète Végétal (carrot and leek), SARL Le Jardin de Rabelais (tomato and cherry tomato), SCEA Verger de la Blottière (apple and pear) and SARL Clos des Costières – Saveurs des Clos (stone fruits).
No deviation has been detected during the external audit of the independent body Control Union.
This was the first time this certification has been achieved within a collective framework in the fruit and vegetable sector (source: French Ministry of Agriculture, May 3rd, 2018). This confirms once again the advances made by the Association Demain la Terre and its members since its decoration on the environmental and societal levels.
The HVE certification is an official recognition of the French Ministry of Agriculture and is based on requirements with obligation of results for a certain number of environmental indicators (biodiversity, phytosanitary strategy, management of the fertilization, management of the water resource). This obligation of results is also valid for the criteria of the Demain la Terre Charter, including the environmental part. This correspondence has made certification easier to obtain, since the minimum levels required by the HVE certification are already achieved and exceeded when the producers are in compliance with the Demain la Terre Charter.
The Association Demain la Terre had already obtained the equivalence with the level 2 of the environmental certification of the farms on April 7th, 2015 by decree of the French Minister of Agriculture.
The Association Demain la Terre, founded in 2004, brings together fruits and vegetables companies, gathered around the same vision of agriculture and sustainable development, combining environment/biodiversity, economy and social. Demain la Terre has developed its own specifications, the Demain la Terre Charter, to provide consumers with credible evidence of producer commitment, focusing of three priorities: health, quality and respect for people and the environment. Its application is annually monitored by an independent body. More than 150,000 tons of fruit and vegetables are certified ‘Demain la Terre’ each year. This is the CSR reference in fruit and vegetable agriculture, the third way along with conventional and organic farming.
