Turkey: 200 ha of agricultural land damaged by hailstorms

200 ha of agricultural land has been damaged significantly by the hailstorm in the Meric district of Edirne, a city located on the Northwestern border of Turkey. Most of the lands damaged were used in the production of watermelon, melon and corn. The city officials are visiting the growers to get an estimate of the damage and this estimate will be communicated to all relevant institutions.

City officials noted that most growers are in debt to banks and that they will have serious problems in paying off the debt. Growers confirmed this situation and added that they are hopeful for state assistance in paying, or at least postponing, these debts.
