Manitobans will soon have another option for ordering groceries online and picking them up. Walmart has announced they will launch a free grocery pickup service in Manitoba on August 14, joining other large chains such as Real Canadian Superstore and Save-On-Foods who already offer the service. It will be available in six locations including: Brandon Walmart Supercentre; Grant Park Walmart Supercentre; Regent West Walmart Supercentre; St. Vital Walmart Supercentre; Winnipeg North Walmart Supercentre and Winnipeg South Walmart Supercentre.

Net sales were up more than 5% in Ingles Markets Inc.'s third quarter, with same-store sales up nearly 2% for the period ending June 30. Net income for the past three and nine months of Ingles' 2018 fiscal year was positively affected by the passage of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 last December, the retailer reported, while the timing of Easter this fiscal year benefited the second quarter rather than the third, which benefited in fiscal 2017.

US: Kroger launches Ship ecommerce platform
Kroger is introducing a new direct to customer ecommerce platform, building on its current online and digital offer. As part of its strategic programme, Restock Kroger, the retailer is working to redefine the customer experience. One of the key ways in which it has been doing this is through its online efforts, making it easier for customers to shop when and how they want, in the most convenient manner. It currently has a variety of online shopping options, including ClickList, its pick up offer, home delivery, partnerships with Instacart and most recently, a partnership with Ocado, the leading online UK platform, to improve its capabilities further. Kroger Ship will initially launch in four markets, with plans to quickly roll it out to additional markets over the next few months. Customers will have access to a selection of 4,500 'Our Brands' products, which will be exclusive to this online platform, as well as over 50,000 core items.

Stop & Shop owner Ahold Delhaize to streamline U.S. e-commerce platforms
Dutch grocer Koninklijke Ahold Delhaize NV is pruning back its e-commerce platforms in the U.S. and looking for partnerships in a bid to stabilize its position in the online groceries market, the company’s finance chief said. The company operates several grocery chains, such as Stop & Shop and Giant Food, with their own online sales platforms, but it now plans to consolidate web sales under its Peapod online delivery service. A unified online platform under Peapod would allow Ahold Delhaize to maintain its U.S. e-commerce sales, Chief Financial Officer Jeff Carr said in an interview with CFO Journal. “We will be integrating the platform with the stores and our loyalty cards,” Mr. Carr said.

7-Eleven Malaysia Holdings Bhd has appointed Colin George Harvey as its chief executive officer. Harvey, 48, brings with him 26 years of experience in the international retail industry, the group said in a filing with the stock exchange. “Prior to his appointment as CEO of 7-Eleven Malaysia, Harvey served as an independent director of the board of Pharmacity Pharmacy JSC, a retail pharmacy leader in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam,” it said, adding that Harvey’s role had been to “advise and coach the Pharmacity team and founding CEO.”

Greece: Spar on track to meet store targets
Spar has said it remains on track to reach its aim of having 80 outlets operational in Greece by end-2018 and more than 300 stores over the next four years. Spar Hellas has so far opened eight stores in Greece, and aims to have 18 outlets open by end-August. Spar’s biggest investment so far has been on the island of Naxos, which saw an existing store being converted to a 1,500 sq. m. outlet (from 800 sq. m.). Spar also operates stores on the islands of Skiathos, Crete, Kos and Kefalonia, as well as in Athens, and is looking to open stores in the cities of Larissa and Agrinio and on Rhodes and Kythnos.
