Gyaldar Limited invests in Myanmar avocado industry

"Last year we decided to invest with our business partners in the Myanmar export market for fruit and vegetables. The Myanmar fruit and vegetable production volume is truly amazing. It even exceeds Thailand. However, their export market is underdeveloped. Therefore, we have decided to take advantage of that market opportunity. Not only do we invest in our own industry, but we also help locals to develop their industry and increase their export opportunities." This is according to Paul Shing of Gyaldar Limited.

"When Myanmar exported products in 2012 the conditions were very different. The USA and Europe had trade embargos on Myanmar. After 2012, the situation changed and Myanmar gradually opened to the world. At present, most of the export from Myanmar goes through Yunnan. Our company is located in Hong Kong and we will try to increase the export from Myanmar to Hong Kong, and from where it will be distributed through mainland China. We imported avocados from Myanmar to Hong Kong for the first time last year. The development proceeds smoothly, although transport could still improve. The product quality was excellent. Chinese consumers love to eat avocado, especially the larger ones. There is a growing market for avocado."

"It is peculiar, but in Myanmar farmers can harvest the same kind of fruit in different seasons. For example, the durian we harvest in south Myanmar ripens in April, while the durian from central Myanmar are harvested between July and September. The seasons overlap slightly and complement each other. This means that we can guarantee fresh durian supply all year round."

"We hope to introduce our company during Asia Fruit Logistica this year. It will be the first time that we participate in this exposition, and we hope to find more people with an interest in products from Myanmar or wholesale traders who hope to export to Myanmar. You can find us in hall 3C at stand M55."
