Prices for Greek Velvita peaches are better, but less produce due to rainy weather

The season is almost coming to an end for the Greek peaches, which had a very long season to start with. Normally the season starts in June, but this year it started 15 days earlier. This season wasn’t without problems though. The rest of Europe was suffering from drought, but the Greek peach produce was affected by some rainy weather.

“The weather conditions were a problem for us this year,” Balanis Efthymios, General Manager for Asepop Velventos, explains: “Due to a lot of rain this season, we had less produce than we normally have, even with the earlier start. The prices are better though, so overall we had a good season. Our harvest will last until the 20th of September.”

Although half of the peaches will be sold locally, the other half will make its way into Europe. “We export our Velvita peaches to Eastern Europe mostly, like Serbia, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Poland. Even though we had less produce, we’ll be able to supply these regions as normal.” Efthymios continued. “We do have some competition, mainly from Italy and Spain.”

Asepop Velventos has produced peaches for over a hundred years now, and have made themselves stand out by packing them on the land as soon as these peaches are ripe. They also take pride in applying modern and environmentally-friendly cultivation methods to ensure the quality of their Velvita peaches.
