Italy: The Patata Sila IGP campaign has started

The Patata della Sila IGP campaign is slightly late compared to last year due to the cold weather in summer. "Potatoes ripened 7-10 days later than expected. The first batches were shipped recently and quality is excellent," explains Albino Carli, sales director of Consorzio Produttori Patate Associati-PPAS.

Various factors, including the weather, have led to a general drop in production although "it's still early to quantify it."

"The potato market is looking good, considering the situation in northern Europe. Prices are high. We'll sell to domestic retailers with a quotation of €1/kg with a 15% increase compared to last year."

The very first quantities were harvested last week. "The campaign has just started and retailer demand is already very lively. Consumers look for our potatoes and we're very proud of it."

"To learn more about the Sila and our potatoes, don't miss the Linea Verde episode on 30th September."
