Albert Heijn impresses with mechanised distribution centre

Dutch supermarket chain Albert Heijn is constructing the distribution centre of the future in Zaandam. Practically the complete assortment of non-perishable products will be mechanically handled from arrival to loading in this new, mechanised, distribution centre. With this new DC, Albert Heijn responds to the use and possibilities of new technologies, making them ready for growth.

In the new distribution centre:
- “We’ll create 50% more capacity, so that we can continue to grow, can continue to surprise customers with new products, and can improve availability;”
- Orders for shops will be loaded even more efficiently, so that fewer trucks have to be used;
- The work will change. The work for employees will become lighter because they won’t have to lift as much in the new DC. In shops, employees will find it easier to stock the shelves because the order of the stacks is the same as the set-up of the shelves.
