Electric delivery bike and independent delivery robot hit the streets

French supermarkets test new delivery options

In several French cities supermarkets are experimenting with environmentally friendly methods of delivery. Carrefour will test delivering shopping with an electric delivery bike. Franprix is taking it a step further and will test the possibility of an electronic robot.

Inhabitants of Marseilles will be able to have their shopping delivered by the electric Carrefour bike from the 1st of December. The vehicle can transport over 300 kilos and has special heating boxes as well as cooling elements. The robot has a speed of 15 kilometres per hour.

Franprix will test the independent delivery robot in the 13th district of Paris. The robot has a capacity of 40 litres and moves along the pavement. Consumers can unlock the box with a code received by text. There is no license to allow the robot to use the road by itself yet, and so initially there will be a guide. The independent robot was developed by the startup TwinswHeel.
