"After a slow start, kiwi de-stocking is now in line with a normal year. The first few weeks until late December saw no peaks in sales but things picked up in January," explains Alessandro Fornari, director of the consortium which the Jingold brand is part of.

"While green kiwis started slow and then picked up, golden kiwis followed their own trend. We had 30% more produce as new orchards started bearing fruits. Quality is excellent and we supplied our clients according to the agreements, meaning there were no price fluctuations throughout the season. Quality is what makes the difference."
Over the past few years, the average price of golden kiwis for the consortium hovered between €1.70/kg for grades 70+. The hectares of Oriental Red have also increased - quantities are still low, but another 100 hectares will start bearing fruit over the next few years.
"We sold red kiwis to Great Britain, Italy and Germany. Additional volumes will become available as of next year, so we can export even more. We are very pleased as feedback is great and demand is lively."
Jintao is the leading variety: around 10 thousand tons were harvested in 2018, 30% more than the previous year.
"It could have been even more, as the weather caused a drop in production of around 20%. Nonetheless, quality was very pleasing."
