Last year Aldi made a big deal of their first strawberries to go on sale - but now they have broken their own record. Or, to put it another way, Springfield Nursery have broken their own record. Last week they harvested their first strawberries of the year.
Springfield Nursery, part of S&A Produce, is located in Wales and was transformed to one of the first strawberry glasshouses in the UK a couple of years ago.
Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Corporate Buying at Aldi comments: “At Aldi, we know our customers look forward to the arrival of British strawberries, as it signals the start of summer.
We’re delighted to have brought this date forward to mark the start of spring. Aldi is 100% committed to supporting British suppliers and it’s great to be the first grocer to offer hand-picked, British-grown strawberries this year.”
Punnets of Aldi’s Specially Selected First Pick Strawberries, which are retailing for £2.79 for 227g, are available in the Bridgend store, with availability increasing throughout spring
