100% organic and with 5 times more potassium than bananas

Sanky, the forgotten fruit of the Incas

Sanky is a round and green Andean fruit, which is produced by a more than two-meter high cactus at 3,500 meters above sea level. Sanky is a 100% ecological product that is free of chemical fertilizers or pesticides. It was forgotten for more than 500 years by the people from Peru, where only very poor peasants consumed it. In some areas, such as Cajamarca, only birds would feed on this wonderful fruit. In 2006, Deiter Linares Guerrero, the manager of Peru Natural, conducted a personal campaign in the media to make the fruit known to all Peruvians.

This fruit, which is also known as quitahambre (Spanish for hunger-killer), provides vitamin C and potassium (five times more than banana). Until then, the Sanky was not consumed in cities like Lima, Trujillo, or Arequipa. Sanky has natural gums that eliminate gastritis, constipation, obesity, cholesterol, and also prevents cancer. The fruit is known as Sankay in Huanta, and Sancayo in Arequipa and Tacna. Currently it is very popular among tourists in the Colca Valley.
