Mexico: Phase 1 completed of 13 hectare blueberry greenhouse site

US-based FibreDust announces the expansion of operations to include a facility in Cd Guzman Mexico. FD Berries in Cd Guzman, Jalisco under the name of FD Berries S.A de C.V began operations in 2018 with the goal of not only showcasing the popular True Blue blueberry grow bag, but to serve as a proving ground for development of new growing bags for the ever-increasing blueberry market. With a close eye on the market, FibreDust president Sam Ahilan saw an opportunity. “I have always wanted to grow blueberries, and now with our new blueberry bag we can bring coir to the market quickly! The advantages of coir are well documented, and the blueberry plant takes to coir well and flourishes. We are so excited about how well the plants do with coir and the yield we get”, he stated from the Guzman operation.

Phase 1, a 15-hectare project for FD Berries facility began in May 2018. This initial phase includes 13 hectares of growing field with greenhouses. While the remaining 2 hectares will contain newly constructed offices and a warehouse for future expansion of FD Berries throughout the Americas.

Phase 2, which began operations in February 2019, will add another 33 hectares of pure growing fields.

Though most of the production will be focused on blueberries, there have already been significant developments in grow bags for other soft fruits. This expansion will include raspberry, and other fruits with specific mixes designed to maximize yield.
