Currently, cape gooseberries are gradually arriving on the market. In China, Shandong is the main production area and, considering the geographical and climate conditions, the Northeast is the most suitable area for planting cape gooseberries, explained Mr. Zhang. “We have our own cape gooseberry growing center in the Northeast. Our production has increased significantly compared to last year. The main reason for this increase is the expansion in the planting area.” 
“Last year, cape gooseberries sold very well, and farmers received good returns, which drove them to expand the planting area of cape gooseberries. However, the increase in total supply did not lower the market price, thanks to the growing demand for the fruit among consumers. In the wholesale markets in Chengdu, our cape gooseberries are sold at 40 yuan per kilo, which is a satisfactory price. However, as more and more seasonal fruit enters the market, the price of the cape gooseberries will drop.” 
“This fruit also has great export potential. After being harvested, it can be easily stored for about two months. Therefore, within a certain period of time, cape gooseberries can be exported to countries that don’t plant the fruit locally. They have strict requirements for the production environment, which can be satisfied by the producing areas in the Northeast. Our current season is expected to last until September. After that, another production center that we've set up in the South will take over. Therefore, a stable supply is another advantage that we have for export.”
