Ripe and ready mango program introduced in Arizona

Vision Produce Company has announced that it is now offering ripe and ready mangoes following the protocol established by the National Mango Board (NMB). The company has launched the program in the Phoenix area, saying that one retailer has experienced a 60 percent increase in sales.

“We are excited to lead the progression of the ‘Ripe & Ready’ mango program in the U.S," said Jesse Sepulveda, Mango Category Manager. "Europe has been processing mangoes for about 10 years now with great success."

The company believes that similar to the banana and avocado categories, mangoes are an item that can benefit from a ripe and ready program. "Our initial results show that the consumer has a extraordinary eating experience and this can be verified when our retailer reports that their sales have doubled," Sepulveda noted. "Our next opportunity for this program is food service, where we see huge potential for a consistently ripe product.”

He added that mangoes are ripened locally with the aim for optimal freshness and eating experience. It was also noted that a ripe and ready program provides and opportunity for a "second chance" to get back consumers that had a bad experience with un-ripe mangoes in the past.
