"The pear harvest season in Hebei officially began in late July. The harvest season is now coming to an end. Last year the weather conditions were extreme and the overall production volume declined. This year the weather conditions were quite stable and in many orchards the pear trees are just now entering their most productive years. The pear harvest in Hebei was abundant this year. The production volume greatly increased in comparison with last year." This is according to Holly Wu, CEO of Hebei Choice Fruit Alliance Business Management Co., Ltd.
"Pears sold really well during the recent Mid-Autumn festival [13 September 2019]. Several companies specifically promoted online sales of gift-wrapped pears during the Mid-Autumn festival period. The overall product quality of Hebei pears is quite good this year. The price started very high last year because the production volume was limited. This year the production volume was abundant, so the price started high at the beginning of the season but quickly dropped. The current price is much lower than around the same time last year. The weather conditions were extreme last year, and that made last year an exception."
"There are pear orchards in Xinjiang and Shandong, but the most important pear production region in China is Hebei. The supply periods of different pear varieties are different, but the difference is small. Our orchard is located in Hebei. We mainly produce Imperial Crown pears and Ya pears. We mainly export our pears to the USA, New Zealand, Canada, and Southeast Asia. We also sell a small volume in the domestic market. Our main export market is in Southeast Asia where we mostly sell Imperial Crown pears. The export market is still quite stable."
