The South African orange season is coming to an end, but according to William Willems of Central Fruit, the Spanish oranges will be ready during next week. “This year we are going to have a nice switch from the South African to the Spanish season with regard to orange supply.
Maybe we will have a few days with a little less volume, but I am confident that it will pick back up soon."
"The sale of citrus is currently doing pretty well," says William, who is satisfied with the start of the season. “The citrus that we sell under the brand Cibel, is doing very well. In the meantime we have also started with mandarin oranges and leaf clementines from Spain and we certainly cannot complain about that sale.
The quality of the citrus is also very good. Certainly when we compare that with of last year. This year the quality of Spanish citrus has improved."
“During the start of the Spanish citrus season, the supply remained fairly limited which gave us some options. However, in terms of prices, we have not been able to benefit much from the limited supply. The citrus prices are currently at a normal level. We can't really speak of spectacular prices, but we can't complain either. The situation is generally positive as it is looking now, I expect that we will have a great season," William concludes.
