Potato is the most consumed vegetable in the US

The USDA’s Economic Research Service’s loss adjusted food availability date shows that potatoes are the number one consumed vegetable in the United States. The data shows that in 2017, 49.2 pounds of fresh and processed potatoes were available per person for Americans to consume, after adjusting for losses. For fresh potatoes, this number was 22.9 pounds per person in 2017.

Tomatoes were the second most available for consumption, at 28.7 pounds per person. The number for fresh and dehydrated onions came to 11.3 pounds per person in 2017, bringing it to third place. Head lettuce was fourth at 8.3 pounds per person, next being romaine and leaf lettuce at 6.8 pounds per person. Carrots and sweet corn finished off the list of the seven top vegetable choices in America.
