Headquartered in the Netherlands, but operating globally, Growers Packers, is now offering its organic and conventionally grown berries in sustainable packaging. “We use a Pulp cardboard packaging with a Mono-PET foil, which allows us to reduce plastics by more than 97 percent,” says Jacques Luteijn with the company. “The foil is heat-sealed on the cardboard and adheres perfectly, which is important for the retailer. For the consumer, it is easy to remove the foil and dispose it separately.”
With this new packaging, Growers Packers says it is following the developments in the field of sustainable packaging. “Recycling companies prefer Mono materials and with this Mono-PET foil we are perfectly complying.” The company expects to be able to offer products in fully compostable packaging in the very short term.
Organic berries show the highest demand for compostable packaging, but Growers Packers will also promote sustainable packaging solutions for conventional produce.
