"Our organic product range was presented at Fruit Logistica 2020 and feedback was good. So far, it includes strawberries, kiwifruit and stone fruit. The commercialization of organic strawberries will start in a few days' time with the specifically-designed cardboard packaging," reports Antonio Giaccio from the Giaccio Frutta PO.
"We developed the organic range to meet consumer demands for healthy products that are also sustainable from an environmental, social and economic point of view. We dedicated part of our land to organic crops and, in 2021, we will be fully operational with all products."
"We are currently processing apples and strawberries. The campaign of melannurca campana IGP was exceptional with increasing demand from both Italy and northern Europe and a 40% increase in prices. It has been a breath of fresh air for producers after a terrible stone fruit campaign."
"The strawberry campaign started early due to the higher temperatures and spring-like weather. Quotations are within the norm although demand peaked around St. Valentine's Day leading to higher prices."
"Our main strawberry cultivars are Melissa and Sabrina, though we are testing the new Partenope variety with a few producers."
"Finally, although it is still too early to make a forecast, this year's stone fruit campaign is looking better due to the lower quantities, which should lead to higher prices and lower costs. Blossoming is 15 days early, so we fear a temperature drop."
