The Spanish group Anecoop is concerned about the effects of the coronavirus

"In Asia, shipping companies do not guarantee if and when goods will arrive"

Joan Mir, the general director of the Anecoop group, acknowledged that the group was concerned about the consequences of the coronavirus outbreak. For example, he said, "we are currently trying to find out how to manage the arrival of strawberries to certain strawberry-consuming areas, such as northern Italy."

Mir said that they had also noticed "a drop in sales in China and in the rest of Asia, as there are shipping companies that do not guarantee that they'll arrive at the port... or better yet, they will arrive, but they can't guarantee when." On the other hand, there are areas where "purchases have started to increase, especially last week, when there was an upturn in marketing."

Mir also said that they had already designed "a contingency plan for headquarters and their commercial offices, in case something happens and everyone has to be sent home. We have created a structure of laptops and tablets so that the activity can continue."

We would really have a problem if our warehouses were affected, he said. Fortunately, he added, "Anecoop is very diversified, so we should be less affected by this issue."
