The Michigan Apple Committee is adding cardboard pop-up display bins to its in-store offerings on a pilot basis this fall. The bins will be featured beginning this month at select Fresh Thyme, Meijer, Piggly Wiggly and SpartanNash stores.
“We have been working with Michigan’s apple sales organizations to strategize marketing offerings for our retail partners,” said Diane Smith, executive director of the Michigan Apple Committee. “The pop-up bins are convenient, easy to use and provide additional, attractive display space for Michigan Apples.”
October is a busy time for apples in retail, with increased movement and consumer interest due to harvest time.
“With retailers moving apples to a featured position in their produce departments, and so many apple varieties available, these bins are a great way for retailers to enhance their displays and showcase the many varieties of Michigan Apples they have to offer,” said Smith. “Our goal with our retail programs is to work collaboratively to provide resources and programs to help them increase shopper traffic and excitement within their produce departments.”
The bins are accompanied by cardboard headers with the phrase “Healthy. Handy. Delicious.” MAC’s retail staff will track the success of the bins with the pilot retailers this fall. If the program is deemed successful, the pop-up bins will be made available on a broader basis for the fall apple season in 2021. Produce buyers can reach out to their Michigan Apple Committee retail account managers for more information.
