François Bellivier, Capexo:

"Sweet potatoes are a very trendy product"

There are currently sweet potatoes from multiple origins available on the French market. "Although we have chosen to market Spanish and Egyptian sweet potatoes, there is also supply from the US, France, Honduras and Portugal," says François Bellivier, Director of Development at Capexo. “As a result, there is a great volume available on the market. From a general point of view, the quality from all origins is good. There are no stocks with spoiled or too old products."

The consumption of sweet potato, like that of other fruits and vegetables, has been affected by the second wave of Covid-19. “It is estimated that 25 to 30% of the sweet potatoes are intended for the restaurant sector, so the closing of restaurants will necessarily lead to a drop in the demand for the product. We hope, however, that consumption will increase ahead of the holiday season."

Although the demand for sweet potatoes is not currently at its peak, consumer interest in the product is increasing year by year: “It is a very trendy product, offered by all fashionable restaurants. Moreover, sweet potatoes enjoy an excellent reputation thanks to their health properties."
