U.S. Mexico Canada agreement seasonal perishable products weekly update

Availability of larger Mexican avocados remains limited

Movement of avocados from Mexico crossing through Texas is expected to remain about the same as the movement has now completely transitioned to the new 2021 crop fruit. Availability of larger fruit remains limited, with demand exceeding supply on 32s-40s and some sales being pushed to available supplies of Peruvian or California product. Good demand extended to smaller sizes with higher prices across the board throughout the week. For Peruvian imports arriving through the ports of Miami, Philadelphia, and New York, movement is expected to remain about the same, with
trading fairly active on most sizes and prices 48s higher, others generally unchanged. Movement from the South District California is expected to remain about the same. Trading was active and prices higher on all sizes aside from 84s. Demand remains fairly good as the market reacts to the lack of supply on larger sizes out of Mexico.

Movement of blueberries from Oregon and Washington is expected about the same, with warm weather forecast again for the week. Trading was moderate with prices higher for slightly tighter supplies through the week. Varieties include Bluecrop, Legacy, Liberty, Calypso and Hot Shot. High freight rates and fruit from competing growing areas are limiting east coast sales. Movement from British Columbia Canada crossing through Northwest Washington is expected about
the same as harvest of Elliot variety begins. Warm weather is again in the forecast after some rain over the past weekend in growing areas. Trading was fairly light to moderate at higher prices and a wide range in prices reported. Michigan blueberries movement is expected to continue seasonal decrease. Trading was moderate at lower prices and quality is becoming variable. The first reports have been issued for Peruvian imports arriving through both Southern California and through the Philadelphia and New York City areas. Movement by boat is expected to increase for both, with trading active on product through Southern California and fairly active at the east coast ports. Reporting should begin soon on blueberries out of Mexico.
