Ron Jongejan, Fresh Flow, the Netherlands

Mostly large avocados from Peru, those from Kenya are smaller

“There's currently good demand for smaller (22mm) avocados," says Ron Jongejan of Fresh Flow in the Netherlands. Kenya can presently send these sizes. But Peru is supplying more large avocados to the market at the moment. This is one of the top avocado exporting countries. Fresh Flow imports from Kenya and Tanzania, among other countries. Both are actively shipping avocados which will continue into December.

Prices on the market
“Prices for the large sizes probably won't change much. The 22mm and smaller avocado prices should rise a little. These are currently selling for between €7 and €8. Some customers usually buy small sizes. They're now opting for larger avocadoes. That's because those prices are so favorable right now." Starting in September, exports will also start in countries like Chile and Israel. Spain will follow. "I can't say anything about that quality and yield yet. But that will certainly determine prices from October/November," Ron concludes.
