New industry tomato

Med Hermes presents Forentum F1 oblong tomatoes

"After years of experience in the table vegetable sector, we have now introduced industry tomatoes," reported Alfredo Amoroso, Ceo at Med Hermes, an Italian multinational located in Ragusa which has become a leader on the Spanish, Italian and Moroccan markets thanks to the great work carried out in the Mediterranean area.

The seed company boasts a great reputation in the professional vegetable seed sector thanks to the research, marketing and sales activities conducted by a qualified management with future challenges in mind. This is how the project which has led to Forentum F1, an oblong industry tomato, was born.

"It is with great pleasure that we have presented our company during an Open Day organized on August 31st at the F.lli Giambattista company in San Severo (FG)."

"This is just the first of a series of products that have the Italian industry in mind. It is based on the experience we acquired on an international level also thanks to the support of a team of Israeli and Spanish geneticists who are an integral part of the project. The objective is to widen the Italian selection and strengthen the processed tomato segment that sees Italy occupy a leading position on the world market."

"After 3 years spent developing the variety, we introduced Forentum F1 in 2021 reaching excellent results. Producers and technicians appreciated the technical and agronomic characteristics of a rustic plant very resistant to biotic and abiotic problems, mainly TSWV and bacteriosis, as well as to the high temperatures registered in 2021, with over 30 days reaching peaks of 40°C. At the end of the cycle, yields were above those of competitors and ripening was slightly early and more concentrated," adds Emea Product Manager Emea Andrea Restuccia.

"We need to stress that the main industries involved processed the produce separately, confirming the high quality standard of the Forentum F1 variety when it comes to sugar content (°Brix), deep red color (even after peeling), uniformity and industrial yields. We cannot but be pleased with the results. We worked hard on the project with the objective of identifying and producing an excellent product."
